Statement by the Dokdo Academy Student Delegation

on the 100th anniversary of the 1910 Annexation Treaty

1.      On the 100th anniversary of the annexation of Korea by Japan, the Dokdo Academy Student Delegation declares following two treaties null:

A.      the 1905 Treaty that deprived Korea of its fiscal and diplomatic rights, which its execution was unilaterally forced upon the Korean Emperor Gojong, and the Annexation Treaty on August 22, 1910 that was implemented by the Japanese governor Terauchi

B.      the Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Wan Yong Lee, while the rest of the Korean officials were in confinement.

2.      The Delegation declares the unilateral incorporation of the indigenous Korean island Dokdo into the Shimane Prefecture under the name of Takeshima invalid in its origin.

3.      The Delegation declares the illegal marking of Takeshima in world atlases and other publications around the year 1905 invalid;

4.      The Delegation strongly urges the worldwide publishers, university libraries, and media to delete the illegal marking of Takeshima, an expression of Japanese imperialism, to be unitarily replaced by the indigenous marking of Dokdo, effectively controlled by the Republic of Korea;

5.      Currently in 2010, 80-90% of foreign publications housed by Korean university libraries mark Takeshima and Sea of Japan, instead of Dokdo and East Sea. The Delegation insists that the university presidents and librarians to take the responsibility of neglecting the situation as it is, and to take initiative in liquidation of Japanese colonial history still apparent in Korea.

6.      Simultaneously, the Dokdo Academy Student Delegation demands the government authorities the following two policy establishment:

A.      The Ministry of Land, Transport, and Maritime Affairs to arrange additional facilities and human infrastructure for the effective control of Dokdo.

B.      The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to reinforce the education on territorial sovereignty in primary and secondary schools regarding the Japanese distortion of history, including the Takeshima marking, and to take the lead in inculcating the proper view of history in the younger generation.

7.      Entering the Dokdo Academy with a strong will to protect Dokdo, the Delegation makes clear to the Korean people that through theoretical education on territorial sovereignty and field survey of Dokdo, the students will work their utmost to inform the world that Dokdo is a certain Korean territory, and to delete the worldwide illegal marking of Takeshima, replacing it with the indigenous Dokdo registration.
